Integrity Management

Integrity management systems for subsea facilities tend to vary widely across operators. To ensure compliance with all current legislation requirements, the IM system can be reviewed, and if necessary a suitable risk based integrity management strategy can be developed to align with industry best practice.

As the operation of an asset is extended beyond original design life, managing the condition of the subsea and pipeline infrastructure becomes even more critical. A fitness for purpose assessment to confirm the life extension of the facilities may be appropriate, along with any contingency options.

Internal inspection can be a key part of an integrity scheme. We can offer management of the complete project from definition, planning, through execution of cleaning and ILI, and reporting. We have experience in the project management of both topsides and subsea pigging campaigns.

Some examples of our experience in integrity management include the following:

  • Coordinated the development of a full integrity management system for a new independent oilfield operator who had acquired an aging subsea asset. The IM system comprised high level documents (Policy / Standard / Scheme) and all technical documents. The transition from system development (generation of documents and agreeing interfaces) into the execution phase (day-to-day operations, monitoring, RBI) was also managed on behalf of the client.
  • A project was developed on behalf of a client to perform an inspection of an 8” water injection riser and pipeline via a tethered inline UT tool deployed from the host platform. The inspection was critical to the continued operation of the riser and pipeline which were known to have suffered 6 o’clock grooving. The inspection was a follow-on from an earlier aggressive cleaning programme which was designed to arrest corrosion rates. The project was managed from start to finish, from defining the inspection concept, identifying suitable vendors and assessing their technical capability, vendor selection and contract award, and subsequently developing the workpack. In the execution phase, management of the overall project included liaison with the third party host facility, project scheduling, planning, offshore execution (including acting as offshore client representative) and project close-out. The inspection was performed successfully and confirmed that the riser and pipeline was fit for continued service at the existing MAOP.
  • Management of the integrity assurance programme for Integrated Production Bundles (IPB) on an FPSO in west Africa. The IPB is an innovative flexible production riser which includes thermal insulation layers, additional hoses for gas lift or chemical services, active heating from electric cables and fluid temperature monitoring with optical fibres. The work involved producing a yearly maintenance/inspection plan and subsequently executing the programme. An annual integrity report was issued on a yearly basis for the three-year duration of the contract.
  • Developed the first phase of a subsea integrity management system for a client’s project in offshore Egypt. This included the development of an IM system for the pipelines, structures and control systems, the facilitation of the initial Risk Assessment and subsequent development of a 5-year inspection plan.
